Origin (by Dan Brown)
|
- I think Dan Brown cares about these questions and tried to address them through his character, but his answers were clearly unconvincing. Kirsch uses high-fidelity evolutionary simulations to prove that life evolved spontaneously from chemical reactions, and that humans will eventually merge with technology. So, no need for God because the laws of physics and science clearly describe our origin and destination. But there is a problem with the first answer. The laws of physics might account for our origin, but then something must account for the laws of physics themselves. Where do they come from? Whereas the second answer, that humans will merge with technology, is a bit trite. Science-fiction writers have already forwarded that thesis for many decades, so I was a bit disappointed to not learn anything new from Brown.
